Artist Note
The White Wizard is a monochrome pen and ink recording of a pivotal battle between divine order and chaotic darkness. In this visual journal a wizard cloaked in white floats above a fire pit gateway to the lower realms where he captures a demon within a radiant orb of power. Below him lies a medieval battlefield marked by stonehenge monuments and the bodies of fallen soldiers while the rising flames transform into dancing evil bat creatures. The sky is filled with a sea of lost souls flowing into the wizard from both sides as if he is a lighthouse for the spirits of the departed. Above his head a spiral shape made of descending demons circles into total oblivion representing the ultimate triumph over the shadows. I wanted to capture the intensity of the moment when a single point of light stands against a landscape of despair to restore balance to the universe. This work serves as a testament to the strength of the spiritual guardian who protects the gateway between worlds. It is a map of the eternal struggle to transmute the energy of the battlefield into the peace of the higher planes.Â
