Artist Note
Albert Hofmann is a kaleidoscopic recording of the chemist who opened the doors of perception and changed the trajectory of human consciousness. In this visual journal his portrait extends to the bottom edge of the frame to show the immense scale of his influence. His jacket is seen dissolving into flowing fibers and cosmic geometry while his necktie has transformed into a pattern of intricate brain cells representing the biological bridge to the infinite. From the back of his head the very debris and energy of the universe emanate into the void while fire flows from his hairline toward a serene sun rising over a peaceful hillscape. Behind his face flowing lava lamp patterns form windows that open into the geometric structures of the legendary Orange Sunshine. In the bottom corner a mountain shape contains a grid of cartoon caricatures of his portrait to pay homage to the iconic Bicycle Day blotter art imagery. The date 1943 is ornately surrounded by flowers to honor the year of his historic discovery. This work serves as a testament to the man who found the key to the internal universe and realized that the fabric of reality is far more fluid than we ever imagined. It is a map for the traveler who knows that the greatest frontiers are found within the mind.
